This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our website at legaledge.com and use our cloud-based legal practice management platform (collectively, the “Service”).

  • Account Information: Name, email address, phone number, firm name, and billing information when you create an account or subscribe to our Service.
  • Client Data: Information you store in the Service about your clients, matters, documents, time entries, billing records, and financial transactions. This data belongs to you and is processed on your behalf.
  • Communications: Messages you send to us through support channels, contact forms, or email.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage Data: Pages visited, features used, clicks, time spent, and interaction patterns within the Service.
  • Device Information: Browser type, operating system, device type, screen resolution, and language preferences.
  • Log Data: IP addresses, access times, referring URLs, and error logs.
  • Cookies and Tracking: We use essential cookies for authentication and session management, and analytics cookies to improve the Service (with your consent where required).

  • We process Client Data solely to provide the Service and as instructed by you
  • We do not access Client Data except as necessary for support (with your permission), maintenance, or legal obligations
  • We do not use Client Data for advertising, marketing, or profiling purposes
  • We do not sell Client Data to third parties under any circumstances
  • Client Data is encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.3)
  • Upon account termination, Client Data is available for export for 90 days, after which it is permanently deleted

5. AI Features and Data Processing

LegalEdge includes AI-powered features such as passive time tracking, document generation, and content summarization. Regarding AI processing:

  • AI models process your data in real-time to provide features; we do not use your Client Data to train general-purpose AI models
  • AI processing occurs within our secure infrastructure
  • You maintain full control over which AI features are enabled
  • AI-generated content (time entries, document drafts) is always presented for your review before finalization

6. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:

  • Service Providers: Third-party companies that help us provide the Service (hosting, payment processing, email delivery), under strict data processing agreements
  • Legal Requirements: When required by law, subpoena, or court order, or to protect our rights, safety, or property
  • Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with advance notice to affected users

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including AES-256 encryption, SOC 2 Type II certified infrastructure, regular penetration testing, role-based access controls, and continuous monitoring. For details, see our Security page.

8. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Client Data is retained during your subscription and for 90 days after termination for export purposes. Usage and log data is retained for up to 24 months for analytics and security purposes.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights including:

  • Access to your personal information
  • Correction of inaccurate data
  • Deletion of your personal information
  • Data portability (export your data)
  • Opt-out of non-essential data processing

Our Service is primarily hosted in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the US, your data may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the US. We implement appropriate safeguards including Standard Contractual Clauses for EU data transfers.

The Service is not directed to individuals under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
